10 Things Organized People Do That You (Probably) Don't Do

We can all be more organized!

Yes, I am organized! And you can be too! Here are some tips to help you get started.

1.    Don’t rely too much on your brain for storing stuff. Use an organizational system that you trust. Find a system that is not going to lose your data and one that is easily accessible. I recommend the cloud or Google Drive, for example. The system needs to be well organized in the first place.

2.   Make a labeler your best friend. Labeling things reduces time wasted searching and looking for stuff. I even carry a small one in my purse.

3.   Declutter, every day. Pick up my book, Decluttering for Dummies, if you need help.

4.   Always be looking ahead. Plan for tomorrow and also make sure you assess quarterly, yearly, and even three years out.

5.   Always have a plan B. I’m talking digital: memory cards, chargers…don’t lose productivity because you run out of space or charge. If running out of something will interrupt your focus or cause you stress, have a backup.

6.   Organize according to your experience, not by how other people do things.  Organize for your lifestyle and your habits.

7.   Question processes and make things simpler and more efficient for you. Remove the excess friction for you, your business, and your customers.

8.   Keep everything in its place. That way, you know where it is before you start working. When you’re done with something, put things back where they go.

9.   Be deliberate about what you have around you. The more things you own, the more energy you have to spend to organize them. Be mindful of what you buy and what you have. Ask yourself if you can get rid of some of things.

10.  Think about organizing as an organic part of your everyday life, like brushing your teeth or making your bed. Get to where you automatically do it every day.

Plus for extra productivity use this time cube.
