One of the biggest reasons we can have anxiety about our home is unorganized closets. These are the places we tend to stuff things we want to deal with at a later date… Then that later date comes when we’re looking for something and keep stumbling over that thing we can’t seem to get rid of! Here are three ways to get rid of clutter for good.

You’re not actually letting go. You’re just rearranging the mess!

Let’s get super honest with ourselves… Sometimes we go out and buy a bunch of bins, baskets and containers to capture our mess without actually going through the piles of clothes, toys, items, and books and getting rid of them! It’s sometimes easier to clean something up and make it look pretty instead of addressing the root issue and getting the tough job done… PURGING. Ask yourself if you’re simply re-arranging the same mess over and over again and avoiding the real work or truly de-cluttering.

You’re holding onto the past

It’s so tempting to hold onto those jeans we wore 5 years ago because we liked the size we were, but studies show that keeping old clothes as motivation to lose weight oftentimes has the opposite effect, making us feel poorly about something we no longer feel accomplished over. Instead of reminding yourself of your past version, let go, and create a new healthy mindset around getting into shape, or dropping a few pounds for your mental and physical health. When you think about it this way you reap the health benefits and going down a size is a wonderful cherry on top!

You haven’t gotten help

It can be difficult to admit when we need help. It can feel shameful to realize we’re in too deep and need a lifeline. But asking for and receiving help is the best thing you can do! Remember all people need help from time to time and there’s nothing to be ashamed of if you need a pick me up from a professional to get you on the right track!
