Do you want to start a business, make a million dollars, find your true passion, get laser-focused, write a book, learn to sew?

Starting a business is so exciting that often we want to dive right in. But wait! There are a couple things you need to know. I’ve started enough businesses and coached enough entrepreneurs to know what the building blocks of success are, and they may surprise you. In this post, I’m going to share what I’ve seen and learned over the years.

No matter what type of business you want to start, read this first.

1. Write The Business Plan

The bad news? You need a business plan. The good news? It does not have to be complicated. Your business plan can even be written on the back of a napkin, but it should have some details about what you are going sell, to whom, and how. From that point, you can expand and add all the detail you want. Believe me, your business plan will constantly be adapting as your business grows and changes, but having that base is like having a North Star to guide you.

2. Get Mentally decluttered

This is a very underrated step. I cannot stress this enough—starting a business will take more mental energy and time than you think. Make sure you have the mental space and time you need to dedicate to your business. Watch my video on Mental Decluttering for help getting started.

3. Declutter your surroundings

You may not think this has anything to do with your business. However, I have seen firsthand how people’s surroundings affects their ability to function. And there’s one thing for certain: after you start your business you will not have time to get organized and decluttered. Do this before, and it will save you a lot of time and unnecessary stress. Watch my video on how to Declutter Any Space.

Remember, your business will be your passion. This new business will take up more time and energy than you can imagine, so be smart and use these three tips to help you get prepared—and succeed.
