Reduce Stress for Holiday Travel

How to be organized and reduce stress while traveling this Holiday Season

Travel is stressful enough on its own, but add in being disorganized and you’re asking for a disaster! Here are three ways you can reduce overwhelm, and even be productive, while you’re traveling!

Don’t wait until the last minute

Pushing things like making flight, hotel or car service accommodation reservations until the last minute usually means you’ll be forced to go with your second or third choice. The Holidays are supposed to be a joyous time to spend with friends and family… So do yourself a favor and reduce your stress come the Holidays by booking the essentials way in advance. Most major credit cards and booking services offer the option of changing reservations a few days before your trip, as well as only charging you once you’ve completed your stay, so budget for the cost to come out closer to the actual travel dates.

Give yourself the gift of time

If you have a major work deadline coming up that’s close to your travel date my advice is to get the work done before you leave for your trip. Trying to get work done or submitted digitally while sitting in a loud airport, late at night in your hotel room, or on a plane with unreliable WiFi is asking for additional stress. Give yourself the gift of un-rushed Holiday time this season and make yourself get the work done before starting your travels. Even if it means you have to push your flight to a later time in the day, or come in on a Tuesday instead of a Monday, you will be more pleasant to be around and have much better quality time with the people you care about if you’re not thinking about work.

Plan ahead

If you’re like me sometimes you’ll leave on a trip and have multiple destinations and climates to pack for. Consider doing the layering method and choose items that all go together, but can be worn as layers as you enter a colder climate.

For example a sleeveless bodysuit and jeans with sandals are perfect for a breezy coastal retreat, and all you need do is layer a jacket, switch out the sandals for ankle boots, add a chic cross body bag, and you’re ready for drinks by a roaring fireplace with your best girlfriends at a mountain resort.

Check out some of my favorite, go-to layering pieces that have gotten me many compliments over the years. These items are investments that continue seeing a high return in my closet and have given me the reputation of being stylish and chic amongst my friends!
