Organizing and Decluttering Your Phone

This may sound like a no-brainer, but start by deleting the apps you don’t use.

Our phones may be ‘smart’, but that doesn’t make them any better at staying decluttered. Your phone, and your whole online life at that, can become cluttered very easily. There are many ways to cut the clutter quickly, and in this video and post, I’m going to touch on a few of the most effective.

This may sound like a no-brainer, but start by deleting the apps you don’t use. You can get them back instantly if you ever need them again. A former colleague of mine said he doesn’t like to have more apps than what fits on the first page of his iPhone because it helps him feel clutter-free. Find your clutter-free threshold and get there.

For those of us who need and use more apps than that, a great solution is to use folders on your phone. Divide your apps up in a way that makes sense to you, so you can easily access them. For example, I have folders for Travel, Social, Maps, Music, Shopping, Accounting, and so on. Figure 14-2 is a screenshot of my phone app folders.

Every week, I go through my phone and other things I don’t need. I do this when I do my weekly photo organizing. Yes, I said weekly; if I don’t do this weekly, it turns into a big mess!

Find what works for you, and start decluttering your phone today!
